Hello everyone,
My name is Kenneth and I’ll be turning 18 in
June this year. When I was young, doctors discovered
that I had high frequency hearing loss on both ears.
My parents were devastated and I being young did not
quite realize the implication of being unable to hear
high frequency tones.
As I grew older, being aware of people staring me
at in the restaurants, supermarkets, schools, I became
more aware that I am different from others. I hated
having to wear my hearing aids and if I don’t
I cannot hear what people is trying to tell me. I
have no choice but to wear the aids so that I can
get by with my everyday life. Every night I would
asked God “why me” and of course my first
reaction was I hated God and cursed him for my hearing
loss.
My ministry life started at the age of 9. I was with
the Altar Servers back then. When I grew older I knew
that Altar Server was not the ministry for me, hence
I decided to join the Youth Music Ministry when I
was in Primary 6. I have lots of fun playing the guitar
but after sometime, I became aware that there is no
main purpose for going to church except just to have
fun.
When I was in Secondary 2, I met 2 members from YAM.
They were the ones who introduced me to YAM. When
I was in Secondary 3, I chose YAM for my Con 3 attachment
program. Soon years went by and today I am still with
YAM after all these years. YAM is like my 2nd home
and everyone is like a family member to me. We had
fun, we had arguments, we praised God together and
there was a strong bond within all of us. Of course,
there were also times when we had our disagreements
but these taught us to learn to be more forgiving
and to give a listening ear to each other’s
explanations.
In
my 3 years with YAM, I have learned a lot more about
God and his love for us. God introduced me to Michael
(in picture, right; Kenneth -
left) - who is today my very good friend. He
too has hearing difficulties. I was amazed by Michael’s
desires for God’s love. Even though he was hearing
impaired, he was such a confident person and not discouraged
by his setback. His attitude towards life has inspired
me to change; not only because of him but also others
whom I have met that are liked me but they are living
life to the fullness.
I am very thankful to God for everything He has done
for me even when I say bad things about Him and getting
angry of Him. I am now a very happy person - I have
found God in my life and through Him I have made new
friends. Together we can be hungry for God’s
love and presence.
It's not enough to just know the scriptures about
God's Plan of the ages, however important this may
be, we need to know His heart as well! We need to
know Him so we can walk as Jesus walked and do the
greater things He promised we would do. So let's make
our calling sure. The whole creation is waiting for
the appearing of Abba's Children, to set it free!
Finally, I want to say that there were many more
people on the way who encouraged us to go deeper with
God and know Him more intimately, as well as sharing
with us revelations of the Spirit and from scripture.
These all helped us along the way, to come to this
place of deeper rest. They are not all mentioned here,
because of the lack of space. May our Heavenly Dad
bless them as well, as He one day will do with All
of His Creation.
God has blessed my life with his guidance and I am
truly thankful. God Bless those that finds God, In
Father's Arms, God Bless!
Kenneth
Proverbs 3:5-6 “Trust
in the LORD with all your heart, and lean not on your
own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge him,
and he will make your paths straight.” (NIV)
Come and join us in YAM and together we can journey
to find out more about God and his love for us.
